Well that explains it...
These are from Berlin's (relatively) new DDR Museum. For the most part (thanks to being encouraged to give it a try from BerlinBites), it's a very nice museum-lette, though I would say that one does get the feeling that the writers of the explanatory texts felt like they were playing to two crowds.
This little detail sent me for a loop, though...why would a detail like this get attention? Seriously?

omg! i've always wanted to try that! ;-)

Clearly you haven't come to terms with the German obsession with excrement yet!

or how about those German toilets with the
little shelf so you can inspect your poo before you flush it?

I guess Disneyland is closer to reality than this self proclaimed museum. Or as we say in Germany "das Ding ist ein Griff ins Klo". Anyone interested in DDR-History should visit different places, read some books, or much better ask some East Germans.

amen, brother ber. better take in what you can before it's all erased ("Better for the Environment! Better for Berlin!", as the signs near the almost-completely-dismantled Palast der Republik read. And, any recommendation for books would be highly appreciated on my part (English preferred). By the way, thank you for teaching me the idiom; i love it.
